WEEDMAPS PRODUCT PAGES

Weedmaps is an online platform and mobile application that connects cannabis consumers with local dispensaries, delivery services, and doctors. It provides information about various cannabis products, strains, and their availability, serving as a comprehensive resource for individuals seeking access to legal marijuana-related services.

THE CHALLENGE

Introduce price comparison. Users are very price driven when it comes to shopping for cannabis, so our challenge was to improve the user’s ability to price-compare products across multiple dispensaries.

Our high-level goals were to:

  • Make it fast and easy to price-compare products across dispensaries

  • Give users more control over their selection and money

  • Provide users with the information they need to make purchase decisions

Senior Product Designer | Weedmaps

MY ROLE

I led the redesign of Weedmaps product screens across responsive web, iOS, and Android since the project's onset in early 2022.

CUSTOMER INSIGHTS & IDEATION

I partnered with three project managers and one senior leadership partner to uncover and translate concepts into features that address customer behaviors and motivations.

EXPERIENCE STRATEGY & VISION

I crafted frameworks and prototypes to communicate the vision, articulate design principles, and outline content strategy. This not only facilitated the evangelization of ideas but also played a pivotal role in securing alignment among stakeholders and steering effective decision-making processes.

PLANNING & SCOPE DEFINITION

I defined the features with my project manager partners, evangelized customer goals, and balanced business goals. I prioritized and negotiated features for launch and beyond.

OVERSIGHT & COORDINATION

I collaborated with other designers to translate and document new patterns into the design system.

DESIGN EXECUTION & VALIDATION

I executed journeys, wireframes, prototypes, design specs, and code reviews.

LEADERSHIP

I designed up and pitched and presented work to gain buy-in from executives, senior stakeholders, and others within the Weedmaps team throughout the project lifecycle.

DISCOVERY

At the outset of the project, the focus was to just redesign the existing experience, but after diving into the business goals, competitive analysis, existing quantitative data, and capturing new quantitative data, it was clear we needed to rethink our approach.

THE DESIGNS

Our strategy underwent a significant shift, moving beyond a surface-level redesign of the current product screen to completely restructuring its foundation and functionality. We reimagined the content layout, emphasizing crucial product features such as potency and effect insights—and introduced dynamic dispensary lists tailored to the user’s inputs based on location, order type, and weight. In addition, we added essential dispensary details to enhance the user’s ability to compare other dispensary options effectively. Finally, we displayed prices and deals prominently within dispensary cards for easy price comparison.

RESULTS

We designed, built, tested, and iterated for over a year with positive results:

  • 4.6% increase in Order Rate

  • 14.5% increase in Add to Cart Click Through Rate

  • 8% increase in Converted Active Sessions

  • 15.5% increase in Dispensary Click Through Rate
