ORDER REVIEWS

Weedmaps is an online platform and mobile application that connects cannabis consumers with local dispensaries, delivery services, and doctors. It provides information about various cannabis products, strains, and their availability, serving as a comprehensive resource for individuals seeking access to legal marijuana-related services.

THE CHALLENGE

Obtain more product reviews. Users are driven by social validation, so our challenge was to rethink our review prompts and flows in order to capture more relevant and informative reviews that would help inform users within the purchase cycle.

Our high-level goals were to:

  1. Get more product reviews

  2. Make it fast and easy to complete

  3. Capture more robust user insights

Senior Product Designer | Weedmaps

MY ROLE

I led the design of Weedmaps review flows across responsive web, iOS, and Android since the onset of the project in early 2023.

CUSTOMER INSIGHTS & IDEATION

I partnered with one project manager and one senior leadership partner to uncover and translate concepts into features that address customer behaviors and motivations.

EXPERIENCE STRATEGY & VISION

I crafted frameworks and prototypes to communicate the vision, articulate design principles, and outline content strategy. This not only facilitated the evangelization of ideas but also played a pivotal role in securing alignment among stakeholders and steering effective decision-making processes.

PLANNING & SCOPE DEFINITION

I defined the features with my project manager partner, evangelized customer goals, and balanced business goals. I prioritized and negotiated features for launch and beyond.

OVERSIGHT & COORDINATION

I collaborated with other designers to translate and document new patterns into the design system.

DESIGN EXECUTION & VALIDATION

I executed journeys, wireframes, prototypes, design specs, and code reviews.

LEADERSHIP

I designed up and pitched and presented work to gain buy-in from executives, senior stakeholders, and others within the Weedmaps team throughout the project lifecycle.

DISCOVERY

At the outset of the project, the focus was to just redesign the existing experience, redesigning single product review screens, but after diving into the business goals, competitive analysis, and existing qualitative and quantitative data, it was clear we needed to rethink our approach.

THE DESIGNS

The strategy shifted from revamping our current product review flow to introducing a novel order review system. This enables us to better align with our objective of acquiring more reviews by prompting users to share their insights on all the products they ordered, while also capturing dispensary reviews.

ORDER REVIEWS FLOW

Implemented a new, dynamic reviews flow for Weedmaps, facilitating feedback collection for entire orders and streamlining the user prompt process for multiple reviews in a timely and contextually relevant manner. Additionally, we decoupled the rating and reviews features to enhance ease of completion and introduced new data fields to capture highly pertinent effect and taste information.

THE RESULTS

The project is in active development and is slated for launch in Q4 2023. Our confidence in the solution's success is rooted in a thorough exploration of both business and user requirements, leading us to a robust direction that effectively addresses a multitude of those needs.
